SUMMARY:Fiddler on the Roof
DESCRIPTION:Fiddler on the Roof is a true musical theatre tradition. Set in the little village of Anatevka\, the story centers on Tevye\, a poor milkman\, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community\, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. \nRich in historical and ethnic detail\, Fiddler on the Roof’s universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race\, class\, nationality and religion. (MITshows.com) While this story is set in 1905\, the village of Anatevka serves as a mirror to our society today. With losses and pain\, joys and triumphs\, Fiddler on the Roof is a universal story for everyone. \nJoin our community based ensembles\, as we explore the ways in which embracing change can open new pathways as we preserve the traditions of the past while progressing into the future. All cast and crew are local community members. Everyone who auditioned got a part no matter their age\, race\, background\, or experience. Many families are performing on stage together! \nDoors open 30 minutes before curtain.

SUMMARY:Newsies Jr.
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City\, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense\, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together\, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right. Including the now-classic songs “Carrying the Banner\,” “Seize the Day\,” and “Santa Fe\,” Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.

SUMMARY:Saturday Speaker Series: "Hidden Aviation History of Magnuson Park"
DESCRIPTION:Photo: MOHAI\, “Flying Boat”: Boeing Clipper\, ca. 1930s. \nLocal Broadcaster Reveals ‘Hidden Aviation History’ of Magnuson Park at Historical Society Speaker Series \nThe Redmond Historical Society kicks off the 2024 season of its Saturday Speaker Series with broadcaster and historian Feliks Banel. \nMagnuson Park was once known as Sand Point Naval Air Station and might be the site of more aviation history than anywhere in the Northwest. Its history dates to the 1920s and it was one of the first places that the Boeing Company assembled aircraft for delivery to the US military. In 1924\, Sand Point was also the site of the beginning and end of the famous “Around The World Flight” by the US Army\, perhaps second only to Charles Lindbergh’s Atlantic crossing in aviation history – and the centennial will be observed later this year. Lindbergh visited Sand Point in the 1920s and received a hero’s welcome. In the 1930s\, Boeing tested its famous “Clippers”―giant flying boats for passenger service―just north of Sand Point at what’s now Matthews Beach Park. \nThe event is free to RHS members\, with a suggested donation of $5 for non-members. \nFeliks Banel is a broadcaster and historian who focuses on Pacific Northwest history\, geography\, cartography\, and pop culture. He presents stories about Northwest history twice each week on KIRO Newsradio and is host of the weekly radio program and podcast “Cascade of History\,” heard live Sunday nights from historic Magnuson Park on SPACE 101.1 FM. Prior to joining the staff at KIRO\, he created the history series “This NOT Just In” for KUOW Public Radio. Feliks also produces Emmy-winning history documentaries for the Seattle Channel. He lives in Seattle.

SUMMARY:Once Told Tales Presents: Friday Night Improv Comedy (Uncensored)
DESCRIPTION:Kick off the weekend with a night of improv comedy\, made up on the spot and based on your suggestions! \nTonight is a special celebration! Through its various incarnations\, Once Told Tales has been bringing laughs to Seattle’s Greater Eastside since 2013. After 11 glorious years\, the team will be splitting up into new teams and the last four shows of our season are going to be blowout celebrations of our legendary family. \nWe will be joined by three special guest groups: One-Handed Clap\, The Brothers Falstaff\, and Fancy Cafeteria. If you haven’t already witnessed their awesomeness\, then you’re in for a treat! \n* While we don’t try for explicit content\, our Friday shows are uncensored and are meant for adults. If you have younger improv fans or want a show more suitable for general audiences\, join us on Saturday for our all-ages show!
