Geeking Out on Running

February 28, 2020

Spring is right around the corner and we can feel it. We’re drawn to Redmond’s gorgeous green scenery, filled with flowers, trees, trails, all blossoming with beauty. No mistake – It’s time to grab your sneakers, get outside, and Geek Out on running . . . so lace ’em up!

Hit the ground running and shoot for a new personal best at the Lake Sammamish Half Marathon. This fairly flat run is great for anyone with a new interest in running, or anyone looking to set a new PR. Start the race in the Redmond Town Center, jog through Marymoor Park, and then follow the East Lake Sammamish Trail to Lake Sammamish State Park. You’re running for a good cause, as proceeds from this race will benefit the Cascade Leadership Challenge, Hopelink, and Attain Housing.

At the end of the month, two more race events are available for Redmond Runners. Beat the Bunny is back for another year of family fun! Whether you plan to run, walk, stroll or hop, if you Beat the Bunny, you’ll win a prize! The new centrally-located and scenic route runs along Redmond’s Central Connector Trail. Also, if you Geek Out on trail running, be sure to register for the Spring Run for Fun at Redmond Watershed Preserve! This location is perfect for kicking off the trail running season thanks to its flat (to gently rolling) course with only a few short steep climbs. Lined with beautiful forest of douglas fir trees and lush ferns, it’s the magic carpet ride of trail runs.

Redmond is renowned for our outdoor trails, providing you a plethora of opportunities to Geek Out on running, even if you can’t make it to any of this month’s organized race events. Some of our favorite runs include Marymoor Park, Farrel-McWhirter Loop Trail, and the Sammamish River Trail. Marymoor Park has over 600 acres of trail-filled land with lively activities to observe during your jaunt. The Farrel-McWhirter Loop Trail is a soft surface trail through the peaceful wooded park, perfect for a calming run. Finally, the Sammamish River Trail offers beautiful views of the river for an adventure the entire family can enjoy.

Jock `n Jill went up the hill, to fetch a pair of…running shoes! While roaming Redmond, it’s essential to have a comfortable & reliable pair of sneakers so you’re a happy camper. Luckily for you, Super Jock `n Jill is your one-stop shop for everything related to fitness.  Their conveniently located Redmond location carries shoes, clothing, and accessories suited to every type of active enthusiast.

Remember to register for the races above before you run out of time! From all of us at Experience Redmond, we hope you enjoy your run into spring.
