In this workshop\, we will explore the vibrant storytelling tradition of Cheriyal art and learn specific tips and techniques for painting on silk. These skills will enable you to create any artwork of your choice in this unique medium. \nTake home a Cheriyal Painting on pure silk that can be framed or stitched. \nIn this workshop we will learn about:\n– The history and cultural ethos of Cheriyal Scroll Paintings\, including it’s deep connection to local folklore and storytelling\n– ⁠Foundational pattern design and compositional structure for creating a Cheriyal image\n– Crafting specific color themes and brushwork details to achieve the nostalgic feel of a Cheriyal Painting\n– ⁠Preparation of a traditional patam (cloth surface) and how to achieve it using modern\, accessible materials. DESCRIPTION:Festival of Color\, presented by Northwest Share in partnership with the Vedic Cultural Center of Sammamish\, with support from LTAC\, the City of Redmond Tourism Grant\, and 4Culture. \nThe Festival of Color will be held at the Redmond city hall campus in Redmond WA\, on Sunday March 8th\, from 12 noon to 05:00 pm. \nBased on the traditional Holi festival of India\, the Festival of Color welcomes spring\, and brings the community together for 5 hours of pure joy and togetherness. \nIt’s a free festival\, open to all public. The festival will include stage entertainment\, dancing\, color contests\, prizes\, delicious food\, and most notably\, play of colors\, color countdowns in which folks color one another. \nPeriodically\, we will have color countdowns with the VIPs at the festival to signal the start of the play of colors.
