Redmond Arts

By city ordinance, Redmond has appointed a poet laureate since 2010. The 2022-2023 Poet and teacher, Laura Da’—who is Eastern Shawnee— focuses much of her work in Redmond on land-based connections to poetry to encourage reflection, conservation, connection, and highlight histories of the land and community. What’s more, Redmond promotes public participation in the arts and proudly supports local artists and cultural arts organizations. New Asphalt Artwork in Downtown Redmond

During the summer of 2023, the City of Redmond installed its second asphalt art piece, symbolizing support for the LGBTQIA+ community with a vibrant interpretation of the Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag. Located at the Cleveland Street crosswalk, this artwork enhances street safety and inclusivity. Mayor Angela Birney emphasized Redmond’s commitment to a welcoming community. Asphalt art, fostering street safety and community engagement, was supported by the Arts and Culture Commission. Artist Jing Jing Wang, a proud queer advocate, collaborated closely with the LGBTQIA+ community to create this inclusive space.
