Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in Redmond, WA

Honoring Culture, Food, & Community

This fall, we’re recognizing the richness of Hispanic and Latino/a/e heritage — including the traditions, histories, and contributions of local communities. Here in Redmond, Washington, Hispanic Heritage Month gives us a wonderful opportunity to spotlight the vibrant businesses that bring authenticity, flavor, creativity, and resilience to our city. Keep reading to learn about some standout places and initiatives to visit, support, and celebrate.

Flavorful Food & Family‑Owned Restaurants

Taqueria El Gallo – a family-owned Mexican restaurant located in Redmond, Washington offering a variety of authentic Mexican food for carry-out or dine-in. All food is prepared fresh to order with only the finest ingredients, and we work very hard to give you the best possible service and food experience.

Agave Cocina & Cantina – Run by siblings Julian, Faviola, and Federico Ramos, this restaurant emphasizes scratch cooking, sustainable sourcing, and healthier twists on classic Mexican fare. Favorites include seafood enchiladas and three‑cheese chile rellenos.

Cafecito Mexican Bakery – Cafecito Mexican Bakery was founded by Lizeet and Porfirio to bring the first and only Mexican bakery to the Eastside. Inspired by the tradition of sharing pan dulce (Mexican pastries) and cafecito (coffee) with family and friends, the bakery aims to create a welcoming space that fosters community.

Rocky’s Empanadas – Rocky is short for Rodrigo. Rodrigo is from Argentina and has four little “empanadas” in his life: his wife Wendy, and his daughters Ester, Emilia and Maia. He loves nothing more than being in the kitchen or behind the grill preparing meals for family and friends. Now we invite you to share in the fun and be a part of this Argentine tradition of sharing empanadas with your friends and loved ones.

Culture, Community, and Support

Centro Cultural Mexicano – This nonprofit plays a key role in the community, offering bilingual education supports, small business programs, free classes, and exhibition space for local artists. It’s a hub for culture, skill‑building, sharing stories, and celebrating heritage. Don’t forget to check out Centro Cultural Mexicano’s website to learn more about how they empower the community.

Importance of Hispanic Heritage in Redmond, WA

Redmond is home to a growing number of Hispanic and Latinx-owned restaurants and grocery stores that do more than just serve incredible food — they bring deep cultural richness, entrepreneurship, and economic vitality to our community. These businesses offer authentic experiences that connect us to heritage and tradition. But beyond the flavors we enjoy at the table, it’s important to recognize the broader impact: many of these establishments are supported by the hard work of Latinx labor, including the essential farmworkers in Eastern Washington who make our “farm-to-table” dining possible. Their contributions — often invisible in everyday conversations — are a backbone of our regional economy. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, let’s not just enjoy the food — let’s acknowledge, support, and elevate the people and communities who make it all happen.
