Redmond’s Light Rail network is expanding, marking a transformative moment for the city’s connectivity and accessibility. With the upcoming Downtown Redmond Station and Marymoor Village Station opening May 10th, 2025, Redmond will be fully linked to the East Link 2 Line, connecting seamlessly to South Bellevue. The celebration starts on May 10th at 10:30 AM with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the Downtown Redmond station.

On May 10th, the Downtown Redmond Station & Marymoor Village Station join the currently-open Overlake Village Station (serving as a gateway to the Overlake Intercultural District) and the Redmond Technology Station (situated near the Microsoft campus).

Light Rail is arriving in Downtown Redmond, bringing a vital new connection to the city! The party starts on May 10th at 10:30AM with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Then you’re invited to join in the festivities from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM for Trail 2 Transit, a grand opening celebration hosted by Move Redmond in partnership with Sound Transit, Eastrail Partners, and Africans on the Eastside. Walk, bike, or roll between the new Redmond Light Rail station and Redmond Central Connector, enjoying live entertainment, local vendors, delicious food, and family-friendly activities. Plus, take part in a scavenger hunt to explore the new Light Rail’s connection to our vibrant community! Don’t miss this exciting event marking a new chapter in Redmond’s transit!

Impact on Redmond

The expansion of light rail in Redmond is a game-changer, and we’re especially excited for the upcoming East Link connection to Seattle. Soon, Redmond will be directly linked to downtown Seattle, offering a fast and reliable transit option for residents and visitors. The East Link Extension spans 14 miles with 10 stations, offering service every 8 minutes during peak hours. The ride from Redmond Technology to Bellevue Downtown takes just 10 minutes, and the full route to Seattle is set to open in 2026. This expansion makes traveling between Redmond, the Eastside, and Seattle easier and more convenient, and we can’t wait for the full connection!
